Tesco Shettleston Community Update

Summer has gone, Autumn is here, and the store is already preparing for the man in the big red suit!

At this time of year, requests for donations increase significantly, with most asking for selection boxes. Along with Easter eggs, these are items we don’t donate, simply due to the volume of requests. However, I’m always happy to arrange a raffle prize for fundraising events at schools, nurseries, organisations, or charities. Just drop a letter into the store with details and a contact phone number.

Our in-store craft group, The Crafty Dafties, has had to close membership to our Tuesday class as it’s full! The group has grown to 25 members and this year has raised and donated £1,200 to local schools and nurseries. Funds come from selling wonderful items knitted, crocheted, or handmade by our members.

Recent donations went to St Timothy’s Primary, Thorntree Primary, Eastbank Primary, and Sandaig Primary (below). We plan to launch another group on a different afternoon, so please keep an eye on our noticeboards and the board outside the Community Space for details.

In recent months, donations have supported Shettleston New Church’s building fund, a Macmillan Coffee Morning at St Andrew’s Secondary, St Joachim’s foodbank, Winter Garden Nursery Community Hub, and the Shettleston Community Growing Project,

among many others.

Finally, our Poppy Scotland collection will run from 22nd October until 11th November. We are always looking for volunteers - if you’d like to help, please visit poppyscotland.org.uk/get-involved/volunteering and list Tesco Shettleston as your preferred collection place. Every hour of your time makes a difference.
