Tesco Shettleston Community Update

Hello everyone - can you believe the year is more than halfway over? I’m sure many of you are also looking forward to the kids going back to school (woohoo!).

What have we been up to? We had a very successful display for FareShare. I made up bags of items that customers picked up, paid for at the till, and donated in our permanent donation basket. This time, I included quick and easy options for parents - Pot Noodles, Pasta ‘n’ Sauce, Koka noodles, etc - all affordable and easy to bulk out with fresh or tinned veg.

We’re so grateful for every donation, especially as food bank demand sadly continues to grow. Long-life items are ideal, but please keep in mind cooking times and any extra ingredients needed.

We also held a successful Poppy Scotland collection for VE Day and Armed Forces Weekend, raising around £2,000. Huge thanks to everyone who donated and to Margaret and Freya McNab, Carole Haggerty, and Margaret Rennie for giving their time to collect.

Recent donations have gone to Elsie’s Journey, Lamlash Nursery, Causeway Church, Easterhouse Fire Station, and more.

In May, we held a Crafty Dafty Sale and raised around £400. We’ll be attending more craft fairs this year - so if you see us, say ‘Hi’! All money raised from our handmade items supports local causes.

Over the summer, we ran The Crafty Dafty Weans sessions (below), where kids (and their parents/guardians!) learned to crochet and knit. Everyone had a great time learning something new together.
