Tesco Parkhead Extra Community Update June 2021

Updated: Jul 1, 2021

Written by Susan Wilson, Tesco Community Champion

Another busy month for us at Tesco Parkhead. I’ve been “Oot n Aboot” offering gardening supporting to schools with #growwithsuzietesco. We’ve helped St Paul's Primary, Westercraigs Nursery, and Bridgeton Family Nursery. I spent an afternoon with young people at Cardinal Winning Secondary in their garden. We planted potatoes and created wildflower and vegetable patches. Our amazing partners B&Q have continued to help us create school allotments and gardens.

We are almost ready to transform the outdoor space at Blue Triangle homeless unit in Shettleston, which houses young people. Thank you to Johnstone’s Decorating Centre for the masonry paint.

I'm also leading a project one day a week with FARE to help transform Lochend Community Allotment into a thriving growing space. St Clare's Nursery, Oakwood Primary, St Benedict's Primary, Lochend Secondary, and FARE young apprentices have all taken on roles within the allotment.

We’ve donated fruit and water to Riverbank Primary and fruit to Dennistoun Early Years. We’ve donated long life milk to Glasgow NE Foodbank, clothing and paint to The Halliday Foundation which enables homeless people to move into their forever homes, and we’ve donated clothing to families involved in fires. Thank you, John Lyons and all our customers who continue to donate books.

It was National Suicide Awareness Week and we held a fundraising day in aid of Chris's House Charity in Coatbridge, which offer support for people contemplating suicide. Thank you to everyone who helped us raise £266.21.
