Dravet’s Syndrome is a severe neurological disorder, with seizures often starting in the first year of life. These seizures are difficult to control and resistant to medication, making daily care a constant challenge for families. Treatment options are limited, and the impact on both the individual and their family can be profound.
On Saturday, 20th September, fundraiser Marie McLeish, whose daughter has Dravet Syndrome, and friends from Jaxon’s Line Dancing, stomped their way to an incredible £3,126 for the DSUK Seizure Monitor Fund. Highlights included nine-year-old Holly performing a solo dance with donations collected in a hat, and Amanda, who lives with Dravet’s, creating ‘Bags with Badges’ for raffle winners. Special thanks went to Shirley Jackson of Line Dancing at Jaxons for the buffet and music, alongside the behind-the-scenes team who made the event a success.
The fundraising will help purchase ten MedPage monitors, devices that can potentially save lives. These monitors provide families with peace of mind, alerting them to seizures during the night and supporting the demanding role of constant care.
Thanks to events like this, families navigating a Dravet’s diagnosis can receive faster, safer support, helping to relieve the burden of round-the-clock care while keeping their loved ones safe.
