Well, I think we can all say goodbye to summer (not that we had one) and start counting down til..nope not yet!
The past couple of months have been busy for our craft group, now affectionately known as the Crafty Daftys! We had our first fundraising day at the 2nd birthday celebration of Hoolit Gifts and their new premises where Mary and Carole looked after us extremely well (thanks ladies). Was lovely to see so many people pop in and also to meet Angela who is the Community Champion at Morrisons in Baillieston. Hopefully, we will be able to collaborate on something soon.
At the event, we sold some amazing items made by our members and also ran a raffle. Our fabulous raffle prize was the most gorgeous blanket crocheted by our very own Margaret McNab. The lucky winner was the very first person who bought raffle tickets - the lovely Colin! He was delighted with his prize and is looking forward to being comfy and cosy this winter!
The raffle raised just over £100 which was donated to the Neo-Natal Unit at Princess Royal Maternity and I am sure they will put this money to good use. The other money raised will be split between Poppy Scotland and our partner c.
Now you may remember that we raised some funds over the past year for The Beatson and Cancer Research. I am delighted to say that Tesco helped raise over £50,000! This culminated in the first Relay for Life in Ayrshire on 31st August. Lots of our Community Champions attended and the event was a huge success. We hope to work together with the team to attend again next year and will advertise this also nearer the time if you would like to get a team together to raise much-needed funds for this amazing charity.
I am starting to plan December and arrange dates and times for all our local schools and nurseries to come in and raise funds with some carol singing. If your school/nursery is interested please contact me by email -glasgowshettleston.community@tesco.comand please mark the email for my attention.
