Tesco Shettleston Extra Community Update November 2021

By Luzier Jeffrey, Community Champion

Hello everyone, I hope all the ghouls and ghosties are gone and we are all in full prep time for the man in the red suit! So, what have I been up to? Well...

Donation to Lamlash Nursery
Donation to Lamlash Nursery

First of all Lamlash Nursery got a donation of compost, plants and bulbs for their garden that was wrecked by vandals. Hopefully they will get things looking nice again.

St Joachim’s Primary in Carmyle has been asking children to make healthy choices and swap their playpiece for fruit. I am delighted to have been able to supply the fruit for this and want to say “well done” to everyone who took part.

Tollcross Together, a group that helps people in and around the area, are holding a race night and I was delighted to offer them some raffle prizes. I look forward to hearing how much they raised.

Sandaig Nursery celebrated autumn by having a One World picnic. I donated fruit and veg for the kids to make soup and have tasters. Everyone had a great time!

Our Community Library at the front of the store is still up and running. We ask for a donation of only 50p a book, but sadly many people don’t add any money to the bucket and help themselves to books. Please remember the money raised at the bookcase is for local schools and groups in our community.

Wellhouse now has a fabulous cafe! EastEnd FlatPack Meals Community Cafe is open 10am-2pm, Monday-Friday. Run by Jackie, Beth and Margaret, there is fresh homemade soup, meals, breakfast and lots more at very reasonable prices. I visited on opening day and had the most delicious mac ‘n’ cheese. Pop up and pay them a visit!

Our Poppy Appeal has kicked off and this year we are able to have volunteers back which is fantastic! The next event that the store is looking for volunteers for is our Food Collection event in November. This three day event is the biggest collection that Tesco undertakes for Fareshare and Trussell Trust. If you can give up a few hours of your time to help collect and sort the donations please give me a shout at the store or via the Facebook page - Lu’s Community Page.
