Tesco Shettleston Extra community update January 2020

Happy new year and welcome to 2020! I would like to start the year by doing a round-up of what we got up to in 2019. Around 14 local groups raised funds by bag packing in-store, and our bookcase raised £960 for charities including The Donna Millar Foundation and Brain Tumour Research.

We received requests from over 150 school, nurseries, groups and organisations looking for help and donations to raise funds. I am delighted to say that we were able to fulfil around 98% of requests.

I attended several schools and community events where, thanks to suppliers, I was able to provide free goodies! In-store we raised funds by dancing, going pink, and by wearing odd socks! Tesco set a world record for the longest dance marathon relay and I am delighted to say I played my part at Wembley Stadium.

We had our first collection for Help For Heroes and an amazing collection for Poppy Scotland. During our collection for FareShare, we were delighted to collect 137 trays of food - however, with more help, this could have been more. Please consider volunteering to help in November 2020. Thank you to everyone who helped me, and the store, through the year - without collaboration a lot of events just wouldn’t happen. This is what Community is all about. We ended the year by welcoming lots of local schools and nurseries into the store to sing carols. It’s always so nice to see and hear, and I feel it sets everyone up for the festive season.

So that brings us nicely to 2020....what do we have planned? Watch this space...
