Tesco Shettleston Extra Community Update August 2021

written by Luzier Jeffrey, Community Champion

I’m loving being out and about in the community again! On Tuesdays, I’ve been volunteering with Shettleston Community Growing Project. The banter flows freely and it's great to see our progress week by week. The Growing Project is a mine of information about gardening and is really encouraging. I was given a couple of tomato plants and now I think I'm as great as Alan Titchmarsh! Leanne and Jamie from Community of Helping Hands have also been helping out which has been great as there is always lots to do.

Over the last 18 months, food banks have been hit hard. We took part in Tesco's National Food Collection for Trussell Trust and FareShare and collected 39 boxes of food. A huge thank you to our volunteers - Dua, Carol, Margaret, and Hazel. We also have a permanent food collection point in the store where donations can be dropped in at any time and Tesco tops up all donations by 20% in cash!

I donated ice lollies to some local nurseries as a treat for the children and staff during the warm weather. To help everyone cool down, our cafe has frozen drinks available for sit-in and takeaway. Until September 1st, kids eat free when an adult spends a minimum of £3.50! Terms and Conditions apply.

Our blue tokens are back! Keep up to date with our Tesco Community Grants at tescocommunitygrants.org.uk/ and more on Facebook at Lu's Community Page
