Shettleston Extra Community Update January 2022

By Luzier Jeffrey, Community Champion

Happy New Year to everyone. Tesco certainly had its challenges over the December period however thankfully we made it through and out the other side. Phew! I hope the store still had some festive spirit with our music, decorations and balloons.

I had the privilege of attending Aultmore Park Primary School to speak to both P3 classes. Their topic is Fairtrade and we had a great discussion. Let me tell you those kids were a tough crowd haha!! I was also delighted to hand over some money from our Library Fund to Mrs Green towards the school funds.

My next big venture was to Sandyhills Bowling Club to meet the East End Pensioners at their Christmas Party! Everyone looked amazing in all their finery and I was delighted to leave lots of goodies with Martha (the club organiser). Everything was shared to ensure no one left empty-handed. And lastly, we had Winterfest in Budhill Square. The people who came along got free food, goody bags, a selection box and entry to the raffle. As always a huge thanks to Beth Parker for arranging the funding and organising the event and thanks to Jackie, Margaret, Anna, Ian and the kids that kept me on my toes all day!

So what’s in store for 2022? Watch out for a Valentine raffle coming soon, and I shall be helping one of our local charities as they take on a new local enterprise venture. I shall also be visiting our Community Grant winners for some photos, and to hear how they are using the money they have received, as well as keeping on top of our fabulous foodbank at the front of the store!

To get in touch write to me at the store, join Lu’s Community Page or check out the notice board behind our checkouts for other contact information.
