Sharon Turnbull, from Baillieston, began More Than Fibro to help those struggling with Fibromyalgia. She recently completed a fundraising and awareness challenge - ‘Five for Fibro’. Sharon completed eight 5ks walks and met other members, volunteers, and supporters who took part in the challenge. Sharon said, “It was genuinely the best week of my life”.
Sharon was able to go from Glasgow to Tranent, to Alloa and Falkirk, to meet fellow Fibromyalgia sufferers. Sharon said, “For me that’s the best part, seeing a person realise there is support and they are no longer on their own is priceless”. Since the event, the media coverage, and awareness table in Baillieston Morrisons, More Than Fibro has increased to 1500+ members. Sharon would like to thank Graham from Morrisons for his support, donations, and the table they had in store across the full awareness week. Sharon added, “I think some customers might have questioned their sanity seeing me in my wings and tutu going in daily to fill up the leaflets.” Her final walk on Monday 17th May at Drumpellier was emotional as it marked how far Sharon had come physically and mentally. Her family was there to support her and the volunteer team joined her to walk to the finish line. Sharon received a beautiful cake from the daughter of one of the members. At present, More than Fibro has raised in excess of £1400 and there are still donations coming in.
Sharon would like to thank her More Than Fibro family for all their support. You can see her speech and TikTok videos from the week on the More Than Fibro Facebook page.
