The Platform Play Café runs from 10.30am-12.30pm on Wednesdays in The Bridge, Easterhouse. Aimed at 0-4 year olds and their parents/carers, each week there is a different session led by an artist, musician or performer. Children are encouraged to get creative (and sometimes get messy!) as they take part in a range of theatre, dance, music and arts-based activities. Each session begins in the cafe where the wee ones can tuck into some fresh fruit while the adults chat and relax with a cuppa, and lunch is provided at the end of the activity.
Recently the attendees enjoyed a “unicorn dance party” (at Platform, unicorns exist, and they like to dance to Whitney Houston!) where the performers, dressed in sparkling costumes complete with unicorn horns, got the children – and some of the braver adults - up on their feet and moving to the music. In another session, the participants got the chance to paint on a large floor canvas in time with the beats and rhythms provided by one of Platform’s associate musicians, drummer Fraser.
The Play Café is free to attend for those living in Local Links postcode areas- if you’re looking for something a bit different to do with the kids, book a space by calling the box office on 0141 276 9696, or speak to staff at the Platform reception.
