Since our last update More than Fibro, and its founder Sharon Turnbull, has been busier than ever supporting fellow Fibromyalgia sufferers from all over the UK. On the 16th of June, the support network officially became a Scottish Registered Charity, More Than Fibro SCIO SC051049. This is a great help in terms of funding and growth. The organisation offers online support, walking sessions, and in-person activities to reduce isolation for those living with Fibromyalgia. Their website and social media pages offer health-based information as well as a supportive and non-judgemental space for over 2,000 members.
Sharon Turnbull was also awarded the UK Prime Minister's Points of Light award in recognition of her services to the Fibromyalgia community across Scotland. A government official saw the coverage of her eight 5k walks and the Five for Fibro Challenge. Sharon told us “He was a bit cheeky though, he told me he was doing a case study on volunteering and asked for more information so when I got the email about the award I was speechless!” Sharon had no idea that she was receiving an award, and it came as a complete shock to her. She said “I’m truly honoured to have received the award and hope it brings more awareness to the condition.” Sharon would like to thank everyone for their continued support.
