Allotment Angels create a heavenly space!

The Allotment Angels

Keen readers of The Hoolit Directory will know about the great work Susan Wilson does in her role as Community Champion for Tesco Parkhead, but you may not be aware that Susan’s work supporting the local community doesn’t end when she hangs up her uniform – in her free time, Susan runs the Allotment Angels project at the Reidvale Community Allotments in Dennistoun.

The project is part of the Include Me 2 Club, a charity for children and adults with additional support needs. The Allotment Angels gain valuable skills while getting the chance to socialise, meet new friends and make a positive difference to the local community. The volunteers actively engage with local people and groups, from nursery children to the elderly, and they share produce from the allotments with local residents. The wider community has definitely embraced the project, with local firms generously donating all the materials used in the allotments.

Before the Allotment Angels worked their magic, the most exotic thing growing in this patch of land was the weeds - in less than a year, the group has created a country garden, sensory pathway, frog pond, herb garden and an allotment packed with vegetables.

Fingers crossed for some sunny weather so that Susan and the green fingered volunteers can spend some time relaxing in the wonderful space they’ve worked so hard to bring to life!
